Just a few weeks ago a thick layer of ice covered the south side of the lake, below our camp. An icy chill in stark contrast to the heat of the evening sun. We had hiked in over frozen ground freshly released from the winter snow pack, among the first to greet the start of fishing season in Ontario.
The smell of damp earth, campfire smoke and freshly ground coffee worked it’s way through the crisp morning air. Sun rose along with the lake's mist. Bird calls, cracking firewood and the ripple of flowing water only adding to the conversation.
